Citizen Nawi premiered at the Jerusalem Film Festival on July 6 2007, with an overwhelming turnout, and received an enthusiastic reception from the wonderful audience. The film, taking part in the Wolgin Competition for Israeli Cinema, was screened in the presence of the producer Sharon Schaveet, director Nissim Mossek, and the film’s central character, Ezra Nawi, who received a standing ovation from the crowd. The film was awarded a Special Mention by the jury, "For its powerful portrayal of its hero, and for its persistent and courageous venturing into the most painful areas of life in this region."
